Attorney Profile

Josephine Gottesman

Ms. Gottesman received her law degree from New York Law School in 1989, having been awarded the AmJur award for excellence in legal writing and research. Ms. Gottesman was also a member of the Federal Litigation clinic, where she first learned about Social Security law and, along with her partner, presented an argument before Honorable Raymond J. Dearie of the US District Court, Southern District of New York, seeking reversal and remand of an unfavorable ALJ decision. The team, of course, won remand.

Ms. Gottesman is admitted to practice before the state Courts of New York and New Jersey, the Federal District Courts of the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the District of New Jersey, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and the US Supreme Court.

Ms. Gottesman's client-centered approach is due, in large part, to her background as a licensed social worker since 1980. Prior to entering law school, Ms. Gottesman graduated from NYU School of Social Work, with an MSW in clinical social work. She became a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers in 1981. Her social work background consists of clinical social work with children and adults within the child welfare and foster care systems. She has also had post-graduate training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy with adults.
